Apple reinvents the interface – this is what the “Liquid Glass” is all about

Apple introduces “Liquid Glass” as a new design concept

Yesterday, on Whit Monday, Apple presented the most extensive software update in almost a decade at WWDC in Cupertino.
It is used in all operating systems – iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26, watchOS 26 and tvOS 26. Liquid Glass combines the optical properties of real glass with a certain fluidity; this means that the interface appears translucent, reflective and changes depending on the context and environment.

How does Liquid Glass affect the user experience?

The transparency and glass look bring many interface elements to the fore without being obtrusive. Buttons, menus, bars and widgets are often displayed over several levels, creating an impression of depth that was previously simply flatter. This ensures that UI components interact more strongly with their background and are no longer perceived in isolation.

Another effect is the greater harmony between the various Apple devices. Previously, there were differences in the UI style between iPhone, iPad, Mac, etc. With Liquid Glass, Apple is trying to bridge these differences – the interface should feel consistent no matter which device you are using.
